Help ensure all new major Hackney developments generate their own Renewable Energy

The Government recently published PPS22. This sets out Planning policies for renewable energy which Planning Authorities should have regard to when drafting development policy and in planning decisions (see www.odpm.gov.uk).

For the first time, PPS22 supports policies that require developers to incorporate on-site renewable energy generation in new buildings - but it is still left up to planning authorities to decide whether or not to adopt such policies.

HEF reckons Hackney Council should help tackle climate change through adopting and implementing Planning policies that require at least 10% of the energy to be used in new residential, commercial or industrial developments will come from on-site renewable energy generation.

Please write to Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney (mayor@hackney.gov.uk) to ask him to support this policy change. Guidance and examples of good practice are included in the companion guide to PPS22.
